British technologies on Ukrainian farms

On September 25, workshop «Best Silage, Cattle Rations and Milking Practices» was held on the basis of Agrofarm «Mayak» in Cherkassy region. The event organizer is the British Embassy in Ukraine. International and Ukrainian experts told about interesting technological solutions for modern dairy production, shared practical experience, demonstrated the work of machinery and equipment during the master classes.

«Ukraine has great potential in dairy cattle breeding. I'm sure that together we can find the key to your needs. It comes as no surprise that Britain ranks 10th among the world's milk producers and the third among the producers of Europe. Cooperation between Great Britain and Ukraine in this area is constantly growing. Experience exchange and personal contact is very important for farmers. Therefore, I believe that this workshop will be an effective platform for acquaintance and exchange of experience», — said First Secretary and Head of the Commercial Section of the British Embassy in Ukraine Cathy Cottrell during the opening of the event.

Oleksiy Vasylchenko, Deputy Director of Agrofarm «Mayak», greeted the guests.

Andy Strzelecki, British silage expert with years of experience, focused on the main aspects of making better silage for increased profitability.

Renat Askarov, sales engineer of agricultural machinery at JCB, talked about technical solutions that will help get and feed quality feed. Manager at Agroinmash Oryna Basanets with presentation «Economic effect of Straw Choppers, Straw Conditioners and other farmer's instruments».

Ruslan Susol, doctor of agricultural sciences and Right Frank consultant, told about the effect of quality silage on the rumen health and the production of milk. Presentation of Martin Eistrup, Regional director of Sales Eastern Europe at Milkrite, was devoted to the health of nipples and milking, as well as to the usage of triangular ventilated teat cup liner.

Andy Strzelecki visually evaluates corn silage: the degree of particle fineness, temperature and density of feed.

«The length of particles should be 20−50 mm. It is optimal in order to stimulate the work of rumen and rumination. In this case, there is no need to add straw or hay to the ration. The silage density indicates what we feed to the cow. If it varies significantly in different places in the silage pit, the results of laboratory analysis of feed quality will also differ. As we can not analyze the silage every day, cows will not receive the same feed every day. This means that the rumen will not function properly, which will negatively affect productivity», — the expert notes.

Anatoliy Livinsky, representative of Right Frank, evaluates total mixed ration on the fodder place.
