Chinese dairy imports boost in June, cream exceeds butter

Chinese dairy imports fly in June, with considerable increases in both quantity and valuefor cheeses, WMP, infant formula milk, butter, whey powder, cream.
SMP imports grew by 45.4% while remaining stationary with reference to unit prices.

In the first six months of 2017, China increased imports by 5.4% in total and by 28.8% in value on a trend basis, with an impressive boom set in June: + 27.4% compared to June of 2016.

In 2017, the shift from SMP and WMP to high value dairy products strengthened (see for example the first half of 2014 and today).

Last June, however, Chinese imports increased for the main dairy products: milk powders (SMP marks +45.4%, WMP +57.2%), condensed milk (+61.1%), yoghurt and buttermilk (+64.9%), butter (+32.1%), cheese (+52.1%), infant formula milk (+45.4%).

Milk Cream strikes a good again and in June imports increase of +80.4% after another explosion in May (+89.8%). And so, since January, Chinese imports of cream in the first half of 2017 grew by 44.7%.

In quantity, the imports of cream exceed those of butter: 60,706 tons of cream versus 47,192 tons of butter. This is something to not underestimate, which could be related to a change in Chinese consumption, seasonal (linked to ice cream) or more durable (cappuccino and stained milk).
