Imports of dairy products to Ukraine will increase by 30% in 2017

 

In 2017, the production of milk in Ukraine will not exceed the volume of the last year and will amount to 10 300 thousand tons, which is 1% less than last year.

It is reported by the press-service of the Economic discussion club. 

In the current year they expect to maintain the export volumes of dairy products almost at the level of 2016 in the range of 450 thousand tons. Thus, due to the reduction in domestic production of raw milk and rapid rise in price of domestic dairy products the increase of imports in the range of 30% is expected. However, the share of imports in domestic food consumption will not exceed 2%.

The consumption of milk and dairy products by population in is expected to reach 208.5 kg (rational norm is 380 kg) per person in 2017.

In January 2017, all categories of farms produced 577 thousand tons of milk, which is 0.2% less than in January 2016. Exported dairy products made 22 thousand tons (1.7 times more), imported — 7 tons (1.3 times more).

Reference: according to statistics, as of 01.02.2017 in comparison with the corresponding date last year the number of cows decreased by 2.8%.

The basic commodity positions of the Ukrainian dairy export in January was butter (55% of the total), of the import — cheeses (78%).

During the first month of the year Ukrainian dairy products were most in demand in Egypt, Moldova, and Kazakhstan.

Traditional suppliers of dairy products to Ukraine are EU countries (Poland, Germany, France, Finland).
