Milk prices monitoring. December

The purchase prices for milk in Ukraine at the end of 2017 corresponded to world trends and showed a downward trend. The main reason for this was the decrease in export prices for dairy products that were a driver during the year, since the domestic market does not allow high sales.

This was reported by analyst of Association of Milk Producers of Ukraine (AVM) Yana Muzychenko.

According to IFCN, global milk production in 2017 increased by 2.3% (preliminary data). In particular, in December, production increased by 2.8%.

The weakening of demand for butter against the backdrop of global milk production growth in the second half of 2017 led to lower prices for almost the whole line of dairy products. As a result, the average milk price in the world in November decreased to 35 dollars/100 kg. This is the lowest figure for the past 14 months.

At the same time, milk prices in Ukraine in December fell by 0.1−0.2 UAH/kg, depending on the quality and volume of delivery.

At the end of December Extra Grade milk cost 10.13 UAH/kg (including VAT), which is 0.5 UAH lower than at the beginning of the month. Price for Higher Grade milk was 9.20 UAH/kg, and Grade I cost 9 UAH.
