Since 2018 there will be only three grades of milk in Ukraine

Changes in the State standard of Ukraine will come into forceon 1 January 2018. There will be only three grades of milk: extra grade,

This mean that the milk of the second grade or lower grade won't be used in processing.

This is due to the fact that milk production in Ukraine is directed to Europe standarts, to their norms that protect consumers from defective products.

«We have to implement the provisions on sanitary-hygienic norms related to raw milk written in the Association Agreement. We shouldn't have four or even five grades of milk, there should be a single standard — extra-grade milk», — said Vice-President on public relations of the Association of milk producers of Ukraine Hanna Lavrenyuk.

Ukraine have to change the system of sorting of milk quite radically. Indeed, under the current State standard it is divided into the following classes: extra, higher grade and Grade I, the second grade and non-graded milk.

According to experts, there is not such a division in the EU, and it is allowed to import only the extra grade milk.

«European style of production is compliance with the basic requirements. Obligatory identification of cattle, treatment, research on the most dangerous diseases. This is a periodic quality control of milk, its industrial validation, quick cooling and quick primary processing. In Europe, farmers invest not only in milk production, but also in their own cooperative processing plants», — says the Chairman of the State service of Ukraine on food safety and consumer protection of Ukraine Volodymyr Lapa.
