Weekly milk and dairy products prices monitoring

Since previous week any changes at raw milk market haven’t occurred. Purchase milk prices were still growing.

Analytical department of Association of Milk Producers of Ukraine announce this information.

Processors are desperately in need of raw milk, it is not only for the actual execution of contracts, but also to renew supply. However, inflation processes make it possible to correlate marginality. In the case of prices for raw milk go up at a stable hryvna rate, sharp reduction in sales should be expected.

On November 17 hryvna crashed in relation to other currency. The rate of hryvna exchange in relation to dollar lost its position starting from the previous week and went 0.47 UAH up (26.20 UAH/dol). NBU was trying to stabilize the current situation, and as a result hryvna went down — 25.61 UAH/dol.

Currency crash this month was explained by political spottiness. Another deeper sinking of national currency to 27−28 UAH/dol is possible in case of any situations beyond the control (Donbass conflict escalation or collapse in global raw materials and financial markets, according to ForexClub analitics).

It is well known, that in third quarter of 2016 hryvna fell in price by 4.3%, (currency falling since 2016 — 8%) and became one of the «weakest» currency of CIS.

Average price for diesel gas oil also showed advance in price — 20.58 UAH/liter, which is 0.04 UAH more since November 25.

According to the results of milk prices monitoring of November 22, average price for milk of extra grade followed an upward trend 0.27 UAH more — 8.37 UAH/kg. The maximum price for this grade was paid in Chernigiv region — 8.71 UAH/kg, and the lowest — 7.90 UAH/kg in Volyn and Kyiv region.

The average price for kg of higher grade milk reached 7.63 UAH/kg, which is 0.14 UAH more than previous week. The maximum price for this grade was paid in Poltava region — 8.55 UAH/kg, and the lowest in Lugansk region — 6.20 UAH/kg.

According to the results of monitoring, price for Grade I milk went 0.09 UAH up (7,191 UAH/kg). The highest price for it was paid in Ternopol region — 8 UAH/kg, and the lowest — 6 UAH/kg in Lviv region.

Rising of price for raw milk and devaluation of the hryvna affected the growth of prices on the shelves for products. The average price for pasteurized milk (fat content 3.2%) was 25 UAH/kg (plus 0.05 UAH this week). Average price for drinking yogurt was 45.93 UAH/kg, which is 1.27 UAH/kg more than last week. «Russian» cheese price wasn’t stable this week and went 1.75 UAH/kg up to 79.7 UAH/kg, while butter price added in price 3.87 UAH/kg (149.86 UAH/kg).
