Wholesale markets. Prices for butter, cheese and milk powder

 

Butter market in May showed stability with support for high prices level (Table 3 and Figure 3). At the world market price for butter remained at the level € 4,200 / tonne, that is 9.5% more than in May last year. Dutch butter down by 1.5% to € 3,960 / t, which is 7% more expensive than the same period in 2010. French butter prices relatively to the previous month up by 0.5% to € 4100. Compared to May 2010 prices increased by 28.1%.

Prices for powder whole milk (PWM) in the world continued to go down. Thus, from April to May this year price for this product has decreased by 1.2% to € 2,836 / t. World prices for powdered skimmed milk (PSM), in contrast, showed growth that was 1.5% and stopped at around € 2,381 / t.

Bidding at the auction "Fonterra" on June 1 reflected the trends of price increase for PSM by 12.9% compared to the previous bids and lower prices for PWM to 3% (Table 2 and Figure 2).

European markets showed price increase. Thus, the PSM in May, compared to the previous month went up by 4.4% to € 3,250 / t, and PSM went up by 7% to the sum of € 2,210 / t. Compared to the last year May prices PSM and PWM have fallen by 4.1% and 4.7% respectively. As for European prices for dry whey, last month it went up by 1.2% to € 830 / t, which is 20.3% more than in May last year.

At cheese markets stability is continuing. Prices for cheddar cheese at the world market remained at the level of $ 4,300 / ton, and at the European market German Emmental cost $ 5577 / t (Table 3 and Figure 3).
