Export demand supports milk prices in Ukraine

Raw milk prices in Ukraine are being supported by export demand, rising global prices for butter and milk powder, and a contraction in raw milk supplies in producing regions. At the same time, domestic demand, logistics, and the sale of finished products will remain key factors that could constrain further increases in procurement prices.

As of September 20, the average purchase price for Extra Grade milk was 15.60 UAH/kg (excluding VAT), an increase of 0.60 UAH compared to a month ago. Prices for this grade at farms range from 14.80 to 16.00 UAH/kg (excluding VAT). Over the past month, the lower end of the price range rose by 0.40 UAH, while the upper end increased by 0.50 UAH.

The average price for Higher Grade is 15.40 UAH/kg (excluding VAT), which is 0.65 UAH higher than in the second half of the previous month. Prices for the Higher Grade milk range from 14.60 to 15.70 UAH/kg (excluding VAT). Over the past month, the lower end of the price range increased by 0.40 UAH, while the upper end rose by 0.50 UAH.

The average price for Grade I milk was 14.70 UAH/kg (excluding VAT), which is 0.90 UAH higher than the previous month. The minimum price at farms was 14.00 UAH/kg, while the maximum was 15.00 UAH/kg. Over the past month, the lower end of the price range rose by 0.80 UAH, and the upper end increased by 1.00 UAH.

Accordingly, the weighted average price for three grades was 15.40 UAH/kg (excluding VAT). Compared to the previous month, the average price increased by 0.65 UAH. Compared to September 2025, the price is lower by 1.52 UAH (-10%).

In the second half of September, purchase prices in Ukraine rose against the background of sufficiently high demand for raw milk from milk processing enterprises at the end of the month. Firstly, the increase in demand for raw milk in Ukraine was facilitated by the increase in demand for exchange-traded goods on export markets. Germany, France, Italy and Poland account for about 63% of butter production in the EU. Milk production is declining in these countries. According to Rabobank forecasts, milk production in the EU may decrease by almost 2% year-on-year in the fourth quarter.
